Local government leaders, the Chamber of Commerce, the Lumpkin County Development Authority, the Dahlonega Downtown Development Authority, and the University of North Georgia have come together to form the Dahlonega-Lumpkin County Economic Development Team. This team has contracted with the Carl Vinson Institute of Government, who will work with the Economic Development Team and the public-at-large to create a shared, implementable, and economically beneficial Economic Development Vision and Implementation Plan. The planning process will broadly engage the community to ensure that the final vision and plan is one that is both of and for the residents of Dahlonega and Lumpkin County.
The purpose of this project is to develop a shared community Economic Development Vision and an Implementation Plan to achieve that vision. Toward that end, the Carl Vinson Institute of Government will also work with a Steering Committee established by the Economic Development Team to ensure the plan includes action steps, funding options, and other guidance for achieving the community vision, resulting in strategies that will produce tangible change and measurable outcomes. The Institute and the Steering Committee will also look to the other economic development planning efforts that have occurred and are occurring in the community, building on those efforts where appropriate. The planning process will result in the establishment of benchmarks of success, along with a plan for collecting and analyzing data. Finally, the effort and work products are intended to predict and support desired elements for the concurrent development of a new Comprehensive Plan for Dahlonega and Lumpkin County.
