SR 52/Morrison Moore Parkway Subarea Study

The SR52/Morrison Moore Parkway Subarea Study is being conducted by the Georgia Department of Transportation (GDOT) in collaboration with the City of Dahlonega. Building on the work of the 2008 Dahlonega Downtown Master Plan, the
subarea study will address transportation deficiencies and identify opportunities to improve operations along the SR 52/Morrison Moore Parkway Corridor and other major facilities in the subarea. Identified issues include peak hour congestion and delay at the intersection of SR 52/ Morrison Moore Parkway and SR 60 due to heavy turning movements onto SR 60 headed to GA400. In addition, the study will address the traffic impacts of major activity centers and proposed developments in the subarea such as the planned expansion of the North Georgia College and State University and Wal-Mart. GDOT has retained a team of consultants headed by Jacobs to assist in the study, which will be completed in August 2011.

Historic Diving Bell Project Donation Form

owensThe purpose of preserving, protecting and displaying the Chestatee River Diving Bell is to assure that this valuable piece of gold mining history is not lost. The Chestatee River Diving Bell has received international recognition as the only known surviving diving bell from this era, and the earliest surviving example of sub-marine technology. The diving bell was designed as a vehicle to hold men in dry safety under water on the Chestatee River bed for the purpose of mining gold. All who donate $500 or more will be acknowledged on a plaque at the Diving Bell display. A pavilion will be built in Hancock Park in 2012 to showcase the 1875 Chestatee River Diving Bell.
