Strategic Goals

Economic Development
Purpose: Enhancing a healthy business environment

  • Create “Eggs & Issues” and “State of the Community” events with the Public Policy Committee
  • Work with North Georgia College & University on Internship and Senior Experience programs
  • Increase exposure with Major Businesses and Corporations
  • Develop programs to attract and retain quality businesses
  • Work on GA-400/HWY-60 Blue Logo Sign Signage
  • Assist businesses with signage issues and urge restoration where needed
  • Work with the Lumpkin County Development Authority to develop fiber optics and high speed internet and communication to County
  • Continue to work closely with the Downtown Development Authority, Historical Preservation Authority, Downtown Merchants Association, Lumpkin County Developmental Authority, and Lumpkin County Water Authority

Governmental Affairs
Purpose: To monitor, analyze and develop recommendations on legislative issues affecting the business community

  • Establish and maintain a strong communication link with elected officials
  • Develop Eggs & Issues events
  • Start up a Legislative Action Committee
  • Increase involvement of members in the legislative process through advocacy and education
  • Continue to produce educational articles for the newsletter and weekly e-mails
  • Continue to get our elected officials to send us their e-news to be launched on our website
  • Create policy statements on major issues
  • Develop opportunities for legislators to meet our members
  • Create forums for members and the public to meet and question candidates for public office
  • Attend Legislative Days in Georgia

Ambassadors
Purpose: To continue to be the direct link with our members and support them in ground breakings, grand openings, and ribbon cuttings-promoting goodwill.

  • Continue to be responsible for Business After Hours Mixers providing registration, greeters and drawing prizes
  • Assist with Chamber 101-Meet the Chamber Orientation
  • Call each new member to invite to current function
  • Assist with member retention
  • Assist with delivering membership plaques
  • Assist with new member referrals
  • Attend Ribbon Cuttings and other ceremonies as requested
  • Represent Chamber at Community functions and visits by dignitaries
  • Assist Board and Staff with Membership Events and Special Events
  • Develop positive public relations for the Chamber

Tourism Board
Purpose: To promote tourism in Lumpkin County and increase occupancy.

  • Work with the Turner Group to bring travel writers to Dahlonega
  • Work with the Turner Group to promote tourism in Lumpkin County
  • Work with the Hospitality Highway to promote the 400 Corridor
  • To produce a Weekly Entertainment Guide
  • To develop an Advertising Campaign to bring more visitors to Dahlonega and Lumpkin County
  • Recruit and train volunteers to work at the Visitors Center
  • Keep the Visitors Center stocked with Chamber members brochures
  • Develop retail sales store – Fred’s Store
  • Work with NEGMTA, GACVB,  and TDAG to improve state, regional and local tourism
  • Work with all Community Festivals
  • Meet with the City Council Quarterly in a Work Session
  • Develop a reporting system to present to the City Council on Bed Tax Expenditures
  • Develop a Marketing Plan for Tourism for the next 3 years
  • Work with Great Southern Publishing on Grant for Map and Fulfillment Brochure
  • Develop a maintenance program for Visitors Center & Public Restrooms
