The Georgia Public Service Commission has established strict financial and technical requirements that companies must meet before they are certified and allowed to sell natural gas in Georgia. Marketers are companies that compete to provide natural gas service to customers. These marketers arrange the buying and selling of natural gas to homes and businesses. Satellite television service is offered by several local vendors. Please consult a local telephone directory for contact numbers. Driver’s LicenseNew Georgia residents must apply for a Georgia driver’s license within 30 days of establishing residency. All other driver’s licenses must be surrendered in order to receive a Georgia license. Applicants 18 years of age or older who surrender a valid license issued by another state that has not been expired for more than two years are only required to successfully pass an eye examination. Applicants who do not surrender a valid license or who surrender an expired license will be required to pass an eye examination, road rules test, road signs test, and driving test. The fee for a driver’s license is $20 for a five-year license, payable in cash. Applicants need proof of Georgia residency such as a utility bill, bank statement, rental contract, employer verification or a Georgia license issued to a parent, guardian or spouse, original or certified copy of an original state-issued birth certificate, certificate of birth registration, certified copy of court record, certified naturalization records, immigration I.D. card, or valid passport. All unlicensed applicants under 18 will be required to show (on a form prescribed by the Department of Driver Services) they have completed a course on alcohol and drugs before they are issued a driver’s license. All applicants under the age of 18 must provide a Certificate of Attendance as proof of enrollment in school or have received a GED, a high school diploma, or completed high school. A Social Security number is required to obtain a driver’s license. It is not necessary to have your original Social Security card. Those in the country legally but without a Social Security number need to obtain a Form SSAL676 from a local Social Security Administration office before visiting a DDS customer service center to apply for a driver’s license. The individual must have the necessary documentation including a valid passport or valid I-94 permit, proof of Georgia residency, and must surrender a foreign driver’s license (if applicable).
Motor Vehicle RegistrationIn order to register a vehicle, new residents to Lumpkin County must show proof of residence such as a piece of personal mail or a driver’s license with the Lumpkin County address. A 1986 or newer model car must be accompanied by a title or proof that the title application has been made. A 1985 model or older vehicle is not required to be titled, but you must have a bill of sale for proof of owner-ship. Applicants must have proof of insurance and a valid Georgia Driver’s license to register a motor vehicle. The tax commissioner’s office accepts cash or local checks as payment for registration fees. Credit cards are not accepted.
Voter RegistrationTo be eligible to vote in city, state and national elections, an applicant must be 18 years of age or older, a U.S. citizen, and must establish residency. Applicants must bring a valid driver’s license or other form of government-issued photo ID. Call the Board of Voter registration to obtain the nearest location to register to vote. You can also register to vote when renewing your driver’s license at the Department of Driver Services, any public library and DFACS.
