Location

In the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains, Dahlonega, Georgia and Lumpkin County enjoy the best of what the Southern Appalachians offer—crystal clear rivers and streams, scenic mountain peaks and valleys, peaceful forest groves and flower-filled meadows.

Yet our area also benefits from its proximity to the commercial heart of the South. Situated only 71 miles north of Atlanta and connected to that major metropolis by Georgia Highway 400, which is only six miles from town, Dahlonega has easy access to interstate highways I-75 and I-85 and from there, to the rest of the state and the country.

Climate

In North Georgia, residents and visitors enjoy a pleasant climate for most of the year. Spring presents mild temperatures with a profusion of dogwood and rhododendron blossoms. Summers are pleasant, perfect for enjoying the hiking trails and waterfalls. Visitors flock to the area in the fall to see the breathtaking colors of turning leaves. Winters provide just enough of a chill to delight those who enjoy hot cocoa by a roaring fireplace. Snowfall averages about 2 inches per year.

The population of Lumpkin County in 2007 was 26,554. The population of Dahlonega in 2007 was 4,939.
