University instructed to identify $4.2 million in budget cuts |
|
Georgia’s public institutions of higher education could be facing significant new funding cuts for FY2011 that would result in a nearly $4.2 million decrease in state funding to North Georgia College & State University, which received $25 million for its FY2010 budget, reports North Georgia.
I am seeking your help in response to the announcement by North Georgia College & State University's president, Dr. Potter, on details of a plan submitted to the University System of Georgia (USG) as part of a system-wide exercise to assess how Georgia's colleges and universities would manage potential new budget cuts of $300 million for the Fiscal Year 2011 budget.

Potential Budget Reductions at North Georgia College & State University |
|
The Georgia legislature's $300 million additional budget reduction request does not represent a final, real reduction, but at this time is a response to a request for information. As such, this proposal is part of the overall budget process. This process begins with the Governor's recommendations to the General Assembly, continues with the General Assembly's adopting a state budget, and then, for the USG, concludes with the Board of Regents, based upon the state appropriation, approving budget allocations to the 35 colleges and universities and any tuition plans. The Higher Education Subcommittee of the House of Representatives will be meeting tomorrow from 8 a.m. to noon, during which they will presumably discuss the budget reduction proposals submitted. The meeting will be broadcast at http://www.gpb.org/house-rules.

Message from Governor Sonny Perdue |
|
Every 10 years, Georgia has the responsibility to participate in the United States Census to the fullest extent. The year 2010 is a census year, and in order to ensure that every resident of our state is counted, I have created a state Complete Count Committee.
This committee, co-chaired by Commissioner Mike Beatty of the Department of Community Affairs and Debra Lyons, Director of the Governor's Office of Workforce Development, is tasked with the responsibility of developing and implementing a plan to ensure we have the best possible Census participation rate.
